Kidde Fire Protection has been selected to supply its Alarmline linear heat detection system to Arsenal Football Club's new Emirates Stadium's car park. The 60,000 capacity stadium in London is on schedule for opening in August 2006, in time for the start of the 2006/07 season.

Ideal for Car Parks

Alarmline offers many advantages over conventional point detection systems in the car park environment. It is simpler and more cost-effecive to installl, does not exhibit false alarms caused by air turbulence and vehicle exhaust fumes, and is not disrupted by soot from diesel engines. Alarmline also provides total coverage despite the complex shape of the building, and its discreet appearance invites less attention from vandals.

System Design

The system was designed and insalled by Kidde Fire Protection distributor Protec Fire Detection plc. It comprises 4,500 metres of Alarmline heat-sensitive cable installed on the ceiling of the car park, which is located underneath the podium encircling the stadium. It is divided into 31 zones, each of which is monitored by an LHD4 control unit that outputs an alarm signal to a central control panel when the temperature alarm threshold is exceeded.

Advanced Feature

The system is among the first in the UK to be connected to a Colt car park impulse ventilation system that uses small, powerful fans instead of conventional ducting to move the air towards extraction points.

Rising Fire Main System

Sister Kidde company Norsen  has also supplied brushed stainless steel fire hose reel cabinets and inlet/outlet cabinets and valves for the dry rising fire main system at the stadium.
